Twitter is the new social medium!
Twitter is a stalking tool!
Twitter has opened so many job opportunities!
Twitter is just a bird... Birds release themselves!
If we were to choose a social network that would unite two parties (the follower and the followee), it would have to be twitter. Let's see who is worth following and who is worth unfollowing, if at all...
The people who follow you first... Do you just want to follow anybody because you are a nice person? Follow for follow is not always a plus, but it is worth noticing tweets that might improve your well-being, might give you inspiration, furthermore is worth replying back and forth and getting into a conversation with someone who might share your interest or may just bless your day!... check✔
You are the boss... Do you want to check up on your workers all the time? No! Do you want to know about their personalities, be inspired by their work skills or just want to become more friendly with them, understand them more, maybe put in a good word for them every now and then or when situation arises? Yes!... check✔
You are the employee... Do you need to follow the boss because it's a "must"? No! Do you want to follow all the workers around you? No! When someone follows you, it is of courtesy to follow them back, but not when that person is using twitter to promote a business or something as robotically obvious or xxx dubious. No! However, if your boss is of great manners, carries about his employers, then if that person is on twitter, if it is not a "must", is it just? Yes! ... check✔
Follow just anyone? No! Different people with different lives... they do intertwine... But when you follow someone back, make sure they are not a robot, not a sex bot, not a spammer, and not posting same tweet over and over again from an automated program.
Celebrity? Well, there are a few famous singers, actors, models, etc. that do follow their fans back, even replying to some of their questions. It's a winner!
If you are a celebrity, you'd be interested in your fans, because they are interested in you and lift you up, and they are with you every step of the way.
If you are not interested in your fans, compare yourself to a jetplane flying high above the clouds, flying over all the little countries on our planet, just watching the people going by, living their lives, while you are the one they look up to, but cannot really see you, get to experience your personality. It's a loss!
At times, it is best, if you are a singer or a writer, for example, to not follow everyone in your industry, especially someone you never met, because lyrics or songs could be claimed easily. But if you think about it, it is inspiration, it is sharing, and "sharing is...", as I say in my first book of poems... "science on the go".
However, you must remember that a poem is an inspiration, that imitation has no value as it is copyrighted, and that every quote has its originator, and that originator must be credited, just like any quote or photo shared out there on the Twitterverse!
The things we find out... they are not always pleasing to some of us, especially the language, the freedom of expression... This would be your call, whether you saw a foul word, a hateful attitude from someone towards you or some of your friends, or anyone for that matter, something that would make you unfollow that person. Sometimes too much information is hurtful, too many bad words are just striking the wrong chords with us, and it makes us judge a person based on their tweets. But what can we do? Give them a chance, or tweet to the world that some of your followers are just using too many unpleasant words, but don't mention anyone by name, they will get the message, otherwise, just unfollow.
In life, you sometimes get 1 or 2 chances to make a good impression, but in tweeting terms you have 140 characters to make an instant one!
The things that gets us talking... Let's face it, you'd never thought someone would reply to your tweet you posted on a trending topic at one time or another, perhaps you'd thought someone would RT it, sure. But have you ever thought you and someone you never heard of are sharing the same trending topics, are fans of the same band, even share the same friends? I think twitter should actually implement that "friends in common" tool, although some application do have that, it's hard to find it. That said, your friends' folowers knew that person you got a reply from for a longer time than you did, so the talk of the town, turned to the talk of the world, and you and him/her followed each other!
RT-ing, (retweeting) someone's tweet every now and then is a major plus, perhaps it is the most powerful silent conversation ever!... check✔
Twitter is the only social network that, once faced with the question of following someone, i.e. followed by someone, it is worth following that person back. Why...
Is it a stalking tool? No! What it is, is a just tool, as in "an only fair" tool of virtual cohabitation, just like a real life neighbor, except this medium is, and must be the only interactive medium unlike the real life one. Some things just belong on the Net.
You'd want to be organized, when following so many people, right? The twitter lists or various applications' group allow you to allocate your followers their respective blocks, thus follow or see
their tweets much easier. Twitter is a fast highway, and some tweets, important tweets are easily missed.
But, hey, don't be sad! It is OK to miss some tweets over now and then: twitter is a relative medium, after all.
The various ways of interaction on twitter go beyond words... the trending topics, the photos, the songs or the videos, etc. are all impressive technology on-the-go. It is of utmost importance to know your followers before you follow them, so you'd be wise to check out their tweets, recent or not so recent, check out their bios or their sites, blog sites and the likes, before you do follow someone back.
Remember, twitter is not about following a cult blindly, not about following a product but the person behind the product, not about making an account just to hurt someone or spewing out hate, and it is definitely not about automating yourself as the world wide weed!
In conclusion, following someone is not an obligation, it is a privilege!
Do not abuse it, or you may be lost in a twitterverse, unfollowed and unwanted.
And in twitter, everyone has something interesting to say once in a while!
